GEDCOM Date Export Error

When dates are entered as "January 30, 1628 (54)" , where (54) is the age at death, the Date is exported incorrectly as:

2 DATE 30 JAN 1628 TO ABT 30 JAN

The Gene Response Was: "You do not need to enter the age with the date - we will calculate that for you and display it on the timeline for that profile." and it was marked as Done and no more comments allowed.

I DO NOT ENTER MY DATES FOLLOWED BY (AGE), BUT THERE ARE SOME IN THE GENI DATA THAT WAY AND ON May 14, 2011 THEY WERE BEING EXPORTED TO GEDCOM FILES INCORRECTLY. You say nothing about having fixed the GEDCOM Export so that it ignores the (AGE) when it creates the GEDCOM DATE item.

I just checked and the problem still exists. There are two solutions for this problem. Either fix the GEDCOM Export so it Exports the date correctly or go through all the GENI data and remove all the "(age)" when age is included with a date.

  Anton - I apologize - I misunderstood your original query. Can you please send me a URL or link to a profile where the age is entered in the date field so I can take a look at what's happened?

  Hello Anton. I took a look at the profile you linked me too. The (54) is being calculated by us and displayed on the profile, but it's not entered in the date field for that profile and isn't being exported with the GEDCOM.

  You only posted one line from the GEDCOM, so I'm not exactly sure where in the GEDCOM this is being written. I do see that the birth date for this profile has the 'Circa' checkbox checked, which means that date is an approximation and will be exported in the GEDCOM with an ABT in front of it. If you still have the GEDCOM handy, could you send it to me?

  The Zippped copy of the GEDCOM is 20 MB. The following is the GEDCOM Individual record which has the problem. I just looked at the Death Date, and it no longer has the (54) after the date. I am downloading another GEDCOM to see if the problem has gone away.

  Hello Anton - from the example you posted, it does seem like the problem is fixed. Can you just let me know if you see the problem again with the new GEDCOM?

  The problem still exists. I looked at quite a few of the places in the GEDCOM with the same error. The only thing I see in common is that  when a Date has an error, the preceeding Date contains only the year.

  The following section of a GEDCOM file may or may not be an error. I do not know how to view the data that has to be in error. It may be entered incorrectly in Geni, or it may only be written to the GEDCOM file incorrectly.

  Anton - the odd dates on that profile are the result of some bad data that was uploaded when we were allowing GEDCOM uploads to our site. If you're seeing similar problems on other profiles in the same area of the tree, it's likely they're all the result of some bad GEDCOM data. We're looking into how we can fix that on our side or create a way for our users to fix this data themselves when they come across it.

  Would it be possible for Geni to fix another problem with the gedcom import?

  There are a number of invalid characters in the gedcom export due to incorrect data from gedcom imports and these play havoc when importing the exports from Geni into other program's.
