My father died in June and I can't get in to edit his profile as deceased, neither from my account, nor from my husband's account. The edit function is just not there, although it is there for other members of the family.
Now I just received a birthday notice for him, as presumably did the rest of my family.

Since your father was a Geni user himself that account have to be closed to give you and your family full access to edit it.
I guess you don't have his login and password to be able to log in as him and close the account, and besides it would probably look weird with a revision showing a login after he is dead, so I suggest that you just follow the instructions in the FAQ:
They solve such cases within a very short time if a close relative makes such a report.
