I have just joined Geni. No matter what I click after first searching for a name, I am forced to the "Buy Geni PRO" now screen. There is apparently no way past this screen. How can you possibly say that Geni Basic is "free" if there is no functionality available to a Geni Basic user? Tell me how to disable this sales screen. If I want to subscribe ... I will decide. On. My. Own. Time.

Geni Support Team Hi Tracy, a basic account on Geni is free. With a free account, you can add unlimited people to the tree, collaborate with other users, and even take advantage of our DNA features, which we provide in partnership with Family Tree DNA.
Full access to our search engine is a paid feature, which is why you are seeing the offer to upgrade when you try to access the search results. A Pro subscription will give you access to Tree Matches (matching profiles on Geni), full access to our search engine, and priority support.
Note it is not required to upgrade to use Geni. You can use most of our features for free. If you are not yet ready to upgrade but would like to do a search, you may do a Google search of the profile name + geni.com. If the profile is public, you will be able to access it for free through Google's search results.
