How do I turn off Google Geolocation when entering locations? It has always been bad and now it seems to be worse. It doesn't have support for historical place names, which is inexcusable for a genealogy website. Now for some reason it's putting the county before the city and abbreviating the state and country. Attached are screenshots of 2 examples. I just want to enter the correct place name without having to click the "Edit Location Details" dropdown every single time.

Matthijs Spollu Geolocation is a suggestion and sometimes it is correct and sometimes not.
On your other suggestion or question why nobody reacts. Could you give me an exemple of the last reaction you gave on this board. The ballance between questions and answers is lost. -

David Penman Very frustrating trying to enter data on this web site but that is the problem with programmers they do things their way without considering the problems they cause, for to many bad systems around the world because programmers always want to force people to do it their way

Jeroen M.W. van Dijk As far as I know Google Geolocation is turned off for all the users. So if you still have problems with this feature then contact a Curator.

Matthew Riggle @Jeroen, Google Geolocation should be turned ON for all users. See https://wiki.geni.com/index.php/Geographic_Places_Naming_Conventions, where it says, "First try to follow the Helper which propose you Place names through Google's geolocation service. This Google service will return you ONLY modern place names..." Also, I submitted ticket #112721 to Geni, and they responded, "There is no option to turn off Google Geolocation. You would need to use the 'Edit Location Details' option if you wish to manually enter the location. Your feedback has been forwarded to our engineers. Please know that although the auto-suggested location shows the county before the city, if the suggested location is selected then the location is saved in the correct fields and will show the city before the county on the profile."
